LA County Fair Celebrates PROUD Weekend

POMONA, CA (Aug. 10, 2019) --The LA County Fair is PROUD to partner with Visibly Proud to bring a new-and-improved event to the 2019 Fair. “PROUD at LA COUNTY FAIR” is a family-friendly queer pride event on Saturday, Sept 7 & Sunday, Sept 8. All people under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, along with their loved-ones and friends, are invited to enjoy a weekend full of entertainment, gatherings, exhibits on queer history & culture, community outreach plus all the fun of LA County Fair!

The event began as an informal “mix-in” in 2011, and was loosely organized via social media. Initially called “Gay Day at LA County Fair,” the name was changed to “PROUD at LA COUNTY FAIR” in 2018 to be more inclusive of all sexualities and gender identities. “I went to many different pride events around California for years and years,” said Eric Adams, producer of Visibly Proud., the event organizer. “And what I saw missing were queer folx’s families, their kids, their parents. And I saw plenty of programming aimed at young cis gay men, sometimes women, and little more for everyone else. I wanted to offer an inclusive alternative and the LA County Fair seemed like the perfect spot to do it!”

“PROUD at LA COUNTY FAIR” will be more visible than ever with entertainment and activities at the Pop Music Stage (adjacent to the Yellow Gate entrance). The area will have decor, photo ops, vendors and booths for non-profit and community organizations and will be the main meet-up spot for members of the LGBTQ+ community while the Fair is open. Live music, DJs, drag performers and bands will take the stage beginning both days beginning at 4 p.m.

“The LA County Fair is an inclusive, family-friendly entertainment event. We welcome andcelebrate all our guests. It was logical for us to get together with Visibly Proud to create a prideevent that everyone can enjoy,” said Lucas Rivera, senior vice president of programming forFairplex.

Anyone participating in “PROUD at LA COUNTY FAIR” can get a single day discounted admission ticket to the fair (for either or both days) by getting a promo code by following the event page at

“By being deliberately inclusive and having the institutional support of Fairplex behind us, we can create the 21st century version of a pride event,” Adams said. “The best thing I ever saw was a family with kids in a stroller, older kids lagging behind, even grandparents, and everyone was wearing pride flags, and I couldn’t really tell who in the group was queer--and it didn’t really matter! The whole family was proud. That’s what this is all about!”
