Horse Shows

The horse show arena is a busy showcase of many types of horses and riding events during the 18 days of the Fair.  Every day brings a different equestrian activity.  Click here for the daily schedule.

Be on the lookout, this year in FairView Farms and The Big Red Barn there will be lots of New educational shows, interactive activities, animals, organic gardening, insects, and even a Farmhouse Kitchen, presented by McDonald’s. Where else can you learn how to cook healthy foods, meet a 130 lb Capybara, make ice cream in a coffee can, visit a polka-dot chicken, help judge the biggest pumpkincontest, watch a baby calf be born and milk a goat, all in one day? See this and more in FairView Farms at the L.A. County Fair.

The Big Red Barn®
NEW! In FairView Farms this year is “Farmers Little Helpers” taking place in The Big Red Barn®. A fun, light hearted interactive show featuring alligators, frogs, crawdads, and other animals that live on farms all over the world and help the farmers.

The Little Red Hen “Chicken Coup & Hatchery”
Visitors to The Big Red Barn® will be able to witness life beginning for baby chicks everyday. As the Fair progresses, the display will slowly fill up with chicks from 1 day old to 24 days old.

Jacob’s Rabbit Hut
This collection of different breeds of rabbits will be on display all through the Fair.

Gabriella’s “Bottle Baby Nursery”
There is always a crowd gathered around the bottle baby nursery, especially at feeding time. That's when the little orphan pigs, calves, goats, and lambs get to put on their show by nursing milk from bottles several times a day.

The Pastures
Last year over 75 animals were born during the Fair. Visit an array of baby animals and their parents living in pastures as they would on a farm:

Thummer’s Sow Pasture & Maternity Barn
This is a fantastic sight for those lucky enough to be present when the sows give birth to their piglets.

Billy Goats Gruff Goat Pasture & Maternity Barn
Sprinting baby goats (kids) with seemingly spring-loaded legs playing on their own goat style motocross track is a sight in The Big Red Barn®.

Lily’s Sheep Pasture & Maternity Barn
New born lambs that look like fluffy store-bought toys will tug at almost everyone's heart strings.

Daisy’s Cow Pasture & Maternity Barn
Each year more and more folks come to The Big Red Barn® hoping to be lucky enough to be present when a 100 lb. baby calf enters this world.

Toby’s Tractor Fun “Farmer for a Day”
All children love the sight of the big powerful tractors plowing the fields alongside the highways. In The Big Red Barn® they have an opportunity to ride and drive their own miniature version of a John Deere farm tractor.

Farm House Friends Petting Barn

The Big Red Barn® features one of the largest petting barnyards anywhere with approximately 125 gentle animals that are raised especially for Farm House Friends.

Abby’s “Farm Dog Bunkhouse”
Dogs play a big role on farms and ranches in America.

Insects, Food & Cooking
Mrs. Millipedes Insect Barn presents - BUGS “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” in this western themed invertebrate walk through exhibit you will see tarantulas, scorpions, millipedes, worms, mounted species of the world’s largest mouths, huge walking sticks, and some of the most unique colored bugs you’ll ever see.

 

Ralphs Jr. Grocery Store

At this very interactive exhibit, children get the chance to go shopping for produce, cereal, and other food groups that would be grown on a farm, all with a kids’ size shopping cart!

 

 

The Farmhouse Kitchen – presented by McDonald’s
This special kitchen is located in the middle of a citrus grove. This is where you will learn all about healthy cooking, watch children win awards for their cookies and cakes- learn to make the best farm fresh smoothies, and cook vegetables “from the farm to the table.”

Daisy’s Education Barns
The Dairy Barn
Daisy has been redecorating in the farm this year and her first stop is the Dairy Barn. The mix of pink and brown will make for a refreshingly new look to this exhibit. In the Milking Parlor you will learn where milk comes. The International Dairy Products Competition Exhibit will have a display of all the winners in ice cream, gelato, cheese, butter, yogurt and more. The Milk Carton is where you will get special treats from our cow friends and learn how milk does the body good. Moo Market is the place to buy white and chocolate milk and gooey chocolate chip cookies. The New Dairy Council of California Classroom is home to cow computers, where you will learn cool facts about the dairy industry and go on a scavenger hunt online. Don’t miss the New Dairy Council Movie Theater where you can watch educational movies on Nutrition.

New this year is The Back Porch where you can learn to make butter with marbles and baby jars and make ice cream the old fashion way, with coffee cans and rock salt.

Across the way, visit Dr.Bob’s Ice Cream Manufacturing Barn, where you will learn how the milk goes “from the cow to the cone,” and even get to buy some tasty treats.

Watusi Cattle
The largest horns of any cattle breed in the world can be found at the L.A. County Fair.

NEW! The Polka-Dot World of Animals
One of the most interesting aspects of the animal world is the large variety of colors and the array of color patterns that each species has. Our collection of different types of animals that all have some form of the polka dot color pattern is a fun and interesting exhibit to view.

NEW! California Mustangs
One of the most important tools that were used in the development of California in the late 1800's was a type of horse known as the Mustang. Some of the horses in our exhibit are purebred descendants of the horses that escaped the early Spanish explorers to America.

Thummer’s Entertainment Barn

NEW! Barnyard Racers Pig Races

Located in their new home in Thummer’s Entertainment Barn, the pigs will have lots more room to race and places for people to sit. Everyone loves them and cheers for their favorite to be first to cross the finish line.

Pig Patio
Just follow the grunts, squeals, snorts, and snores to the location of one of the most popular of all the Fair animals and cousin to our very own mascot Thummer.

Have you ever wanted to milk a goat? Where else but at the L.A. County Fair can you get that opportunity? Visit the new Dairy Goat Barn where you can milk a goat, learn about where goat cheese comes from, and see a variety of milk goats in this fun and educational exhibit.

NEW! Goat Rendezvous
The meat goat industry is the fastest growing segment of American Agriculture. This exhibit features the major breeds of goats being used to meet the ever growing demand for goat meat.

Lily’s “Barber Shop”
Lily’s is a barber shop just for sheep. Watching a sheep get a hair cut is a sight most folks will never see, but they can at FairView Farms! Our expert animal barber, John Quimbly provides a whole herd of information about this ancient craft and answers questions from the audience at each of his shows. Also New this year is Lily’s Sheep Herding Demonstrations in the new Sheep Entertainment Barn.

“The Rodent Round-Up” Exhibit will feature a unique variety of rodents found all over the world. Some of the rodents that will be at the Round-Up will be rats, some hairless and some not, mice, guinea pigs, chinchillas, a Capybara the 130 lb. rodent, and the African crested porcupine with 2’ long quills.

Cornucopia of Chickens
This area is a collection of many different breeds of chickens. It is referred to as a rainbow of feathers.

Mommy & Me
It's always fun to watch baby animals interact with each other and their mothers. Different breeds, different species and babies of different ages make this exhibit of motherhood a family favorite.

The Rawhide Dude Ranch
City Slickers get to “cowboy up” at The Rawhide Dude Ranch by making their very own rope on a hand turned machine, ridin’ a giant rocking horse, or try their hand at ropin’ a pert near real calf.

Pony Rides - presented by Animal Adventure Unlimited
Children will enjoy the opportunity to ride a purebred welsh pony.

Cavalcade of Horses
Don’t miss the Cavalcade of Horses, where various equine events will take place, such as; The California Mounted Desperados.

California Crops
This display features the fruits, nuts, vegetables, grains and plant fibers grown in California.

The FairView Farms Organic Gardens
Come see all the crops growing in FairView Farms.

Apple & Peach Orchard
Don’t forget to visit the Apple & Peach Orchard in FairView Farms next to The Rawhide Dude Ranch.
