Get a glimpse of what life was like growing up in the early days of California. Learn about the history of California as you go back in time.
The Mission- In the Mission you can make a vintage rag doll, hook a rug, learn how to make a broom, soap, weave a basket, or make a rope. Don’t forget to visit with the historical characters as they tell you all about the missions of California and the importance that they played in our history. The Little Red School House- Come visit the newly remolded Little Red School House, nestled beneath the trees. Imagine what it would have been like to be a student in the 1920s in California. Come in, take a seat, rest a spell, meet our new school teacher and learn about what learning was like in a one room school house.
Debra’s Mercantile- The Mercantile is the place to learn how to quilt the old fashion way. Children and adults alike can come by and try their hand at one of the oldest forms of art - quilting! Don’t miss the displays of vintage fabrics, quilts and buttons. Come be part of this vintage fun.
The Traveling Blacksmith Show - In California’s Heritage Square the Blacksmith has moved out of the barn. Just follow the sound of the ringing of the anvil to watch, visit, and learn about this unique art form and how blacksmiths forged the tools of their trade in the 1800s. Listen to Christy Horne as she tells stories about the life of a blacksmith.
Town Square- Visit with the historical characters, learn about the California Missions, play with vintage toys and games, and witness historical re-enactments. The Gold Rush Experience a part of California history each day of the Fair in the Gold Rush exhibit. This hands-on exhibit features a vintage 1920s facade, complete with a long panning trough filled with gold and silver. Authentic mining equipment is on display. For a nominal fee, guests can pan for gold in the cool water or cut their own geode. Visit with the miners and learn about life in the gold mines in early California.
Heritage Farm House- This Farm house from 1922 is filled with antique furniture and costumed historians. Don’t miss the Old Fashion Kitchen Gadgets exhibit on the porch of the house. Learn what all those fun gadgets did and how you can use them to grind corn, peel apples, and make juice. You can even wash clothes with our vintage wash boards and tubs. The Vintage Craft Barn- In our vintage barn from the 1900s, you will be able to watch as spinners turn wool into sweaters right before your eyes. Come and meet Amy, Isabel, and Sammy our Angora goats that will be rooming around in the barn. This year in the Craft Barn you can learn to weave and work with looms to make potholders. Come by and see the spinners spin their wool into beautiful handcrafted clothing and learn about all the different kinds of wool that is used to make our clothes. Wagon Train Dolls- A favorite at Heritage Square is our Wagon Train Dolls. This is a hands-on activity that has become a “must do” for many Fair goers. Learn how our pioneers never wasted anything. They even turned old, unwanted, and discarded items such as rags, corn husks, yarn, and even rope into loved and cherished belongings. Vintage Gardens- Visit the Vintage Gardens overflowing with fresh vegetables and herbs and learn how to grind your own corn like the pioneers did.
